Who is this programme for?

Primary class teachers, geography subject leaders or anyone looking to change the way they teach geography through a literacy based approach.

 

Outcomes

Delegates will increase their knowledge of fiction texts which link to topics covered in the National Curriculum. They will have the opportunity to explore creative geography based activities which link to the texts and plan using the texts provided. They will have an increased knowledge of how to develop the new geography curriculum and approach it creatively.

The following will be explored during the session:

  • The content and requirements of the geography curriculum
  • How geography can still be taught creatively in a topic/cross-curricular approach
  • To know a variety of practical ways to deepen learning
  • To know a range of texts which can be used to teach geography.

 

How will my School benefit?

Delegates will have a clear understanding of how they can approach the teaching of geography creatively whilst also giving it a literacy focus. Delegates will come away with a range of texts and ideas for both KS1 and KS2. Delegates will know how to link fiction to topics whilst covering geography knowledge such as coastal erosion and seaside features. We will also explore how to teach new aspects of the curriculum such as North America.

 

How will my students benefit?

With key stage appropriate texts children will be able to engage with a story and explore geographical concepts in a contextualised way.
