Lead Teacher Yr9 English & ITT Lead Subject Mentor

The Billericay School, Billericay

About Me

I have worked as an English Teacher for 19 years and have been employed at The Billericay School since 2000. Throughout my teaching career, I have held various responsibilities including teacher in charge of Key stage 3 English, teacher in charge of Key stage 4 English and Teacher Governor. I have been employed as an NQT mentor and ITT mentor, and have been the Lead Subject Mentor for English for Mid-Essex ITT since 2006. I performance manage some of the staff within my department and have lead a number of CPD training sessions for whole staff on various topics including behaviour for learning, active learning, spelling strategies and working with trainee teachers. I have also lead general professional study sessions for all the trainees at Mid-Essex ITT on how children learn. I worked as a GCSE examiner for AQA from 2003-2008. In 2010, I was seconded for 6 months to another secondary school in Essex in an expert advisory capacity. I am currently completing a part-time Master’s Degree at the Institute of Education. My role as Lead Subject Mentor for English requires me to lead, support and quality assure a team of mentors from different schools. I create and run the English training programme for trainees and mentors. This has been rated as outstanding when observed by other Head teachers in the consortium. This role involves regular observation in other school settings / contexts and has enabled me to particularly consider the impact that leadership has upon successful learning and a school’s ethos. I have delivered high quality trainees to local schools who have gone on to be successful NQTS. Last year for example, 3 of the 5 English trainees completed the course with an ‘outstanding’ final judgement.
