SEEVIC College, Benfleet
I have worked as a secondary Dance teacher for 11 years. Throughout my teaching career, I have held a number of different roles and responsibilities. The first role was as Head of Department. Dance, at the time, was a subject taught within PE and my first achievement was to raise the profile of dance enough for it to become a subject within its own right. I was successful in ensuring every student in the school was receiving high quality discrete dance lessons. I was then given the opportunity to apply to become Head of the Creative Arts Faculty, as the successful candidate I spent four years leading and developing a team of nine colleagues. During this time I was responsible for raising attainment, monitoring teaching and learning, staff CPD, driving national agenda and contributing to whole school priorities. I worked closely with my own faculty as well as across faculties leading whole school priorities which involved leasing with departmental heads and senior managers to co ordinate and implement strategy.
In recent years I have been working with the Youth Sports Trust as a Development Coach which involved working with a variety of head teachers, departmental leaders and sport coaches on implementing national strategies in sport with a particular focus on creativity within sport.
I have been an ITT and NQT mentor for a number of years and have mentored many students. I am now the whole school mentor for Billericay Education Consortium Initial Teacher Training, as well as other training providers such as Brighton University .
I am currently conducting outreach work effectively with partner schools supporting them with the delivery of high quality dance practice.
