Janet Bradley

Acting Head of English

The Billericay School, Billericay

About Me

I have taught at The Billericay School in the successful English department for over twelve years and have led the department through many changes to the Key Stage 4 curriculum.  I have played a leading role in leading the department to achieve excellent examination results by helping colleagues get to grips with new syllabi, accountability and assessment measures and have inculcated an approach which ensures that the department works together to produce engaging and challenging schemes of work.  My leadership has contributed towards establishing a department with high standards, excellent organisation, and a caring ethos towards students and each other.  Throughout my career, I have helped develop staff through mentoring and coaching as they have taken on roles of responsibility.

I have a wealth of experience teaching Key Stage 5 English Literature and the Language/ Literature combined course which has contributed towards successful examination results.   I also have expertise in assessing students in all key stages and am proud that our assessment and grade predictions have a high level of accuracy.  In the past I have been an examiner for AQA which has naturally helped inform my teaching. My work with the sixth form is also extended through my involvement with the EPQ programme and assisting students with their UCAS applications.

Beyond The Billericay School, I have enjoyed networking in hub meetings and visits in order to share resources and ideas. I have been fortunate in attending a wide number of courses to ensure that my subject knowledge is outstanding and I am proactive in leading INSET within the department and whole school.

Being a Teacher Governor for the past three years has also given me a wider perspective of whole school objectives and the challenges which schools face in terms of whole school curriculum and financial planning.  Previous to working in the secondary comprehensive system in the UK, I taught in Japan and Thailand which has also given me an international perspective and the challenges faced by EAL students.
