Caroline Sullivan

Associate Leader - Humanities

Castle View School, Canvey Island

About Me

I have worked at my current school for ten years.  During this time I have developed my practice and led various teams.  I have since been promoted onto the extended school leadership team as Associate Leader Humanities and lead History and Geography with a whole school focus on home learning.  Previously, I have also taught English to GCSE level and am familiar with EBAC subjects, having Maths as part of my degree.

I believe one of my strongest skills and attributes as a leader is the tracking and analysis of students and the subsequent data analysis from this.  Although tracking students has been essential in identifying areas for improvement, it has been the analysis and subsequent planning and engagement of students which has delivered results.  Key to this is having high expectations of students and believing with the right support all students are capable of achieving.

Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.  With this in mind I believe it is paramount that schools and curriculum areas reflect on what went well with a year group but also what needs improving.  If you continuously do the same thing each year without reflection, subjects/schools begin to stagnate rather than move forward.

I believe if one curriculum area can be outstanding in a school then others should be able to achieve the same.  However, the desire for whole school achievement needs to be driven by strong, determined leaders with a passion for not only their subjects but also their school.  It is this desire which drives me to participate in leadership and inspire, drive and deliver outstanding success for both school and students.
