Stepping Into Subject Leadership (Primary NQTs)

Who is this programme for?
For Primary NQTs and RQTs (2-5 years in teaching), who are about to embark on the role of Subject Leader (SL) or those who are currently new to Subject Leadership, or returning teachers with a Subject Leadership responsibility.

Outcomes
Delegates will increase their knowledge, skills and understanding of the fundamental principles which underpin Subject Leadership. They will develop an increased understanding of the varying roles of the Subject Leader and be more confident to undertake a wide range of aspects presented.

The following will be explored during the session:

  • Compiling an effective subject leader file
  • Subject self-evaluation skills
  • Sources of evidence, including work sampling, lesson observations, climate walks, staff and pupil perceptions
  • Data analysis to inform subject development
  • Action Planning to inform subject development

How will my School benefit?
Effective subject leaders will monitor teaching and learning and outcomes in their subject, enabling them to identify areas for development in curriculum content, teacher confidence and pupil enthusiasm for the subject area.

How will my students benefit?
Delegates will have increased knowledge and skills to identify strengths and key areas for development in their subject.  They will have an increased range of strategies to be more effective in their role.
