Important Message

This session will run again soon. Please let us know if you would like to attend by selecting the 'Express Interest' button below.

As one of the key skills in reading, teaching pupils to develop inference is key.  Understanding inference is seen as a higher order thinking skill and therefore one that many of our children struggle to comprehend.  Teaching inference throughout the primary curriculum, and across all age ranges, will enable pupils to confidently tackle the demands of the KS2 reading curriculum.

Who is this programme for?

Senior Leaders, English Subject Leaders, Classroom Teachers and anyone with a keen interest in developing their understanding developing inference in reading.

Delegates will increase their knowledge, skills and understanding of the definitions of inference and how to develop children’s inference skills, starting from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 2.  They will also gain an understanding of how inference skills can also be developed across the wider curriculum.

The following will be explored during the session:

  • Definitions of Inference
  • Inference at every age
  • Developing inference skills across the curriculum
  • Application of skills in reading

How will my School benefit?

Delegates will not only leave the course confident in their ability to plan for the teaching of inference across the school curriculum and the primary phase, they will also end the session with a clear plan for what to do next to increase the impact they have in their own school.
