National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership (NPQML)
Our next NPQML programme will commence early in the 2017-18 Academic year - dates TBC. If you would like further information on this programme, please click on the Express Interest link below.
The National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership (NPQML) will give middle leaders the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to drive successful team performance and improve classroom practice. Following successful completion of the programme, delegates will receive a NCTL accreditation.
The programme is modular based, with two essential modules and one elective. Delegates will need to be released from school to attend 2 afternoon introductory sessions, 3 full day face to face sessions and approximately 6 twilight sessions. Additionally, they need to committed to approximately 150 hours of study usually spread over 12 months, and during this time commit to lead a ‘Team based Initiative/Project’, and submit evidence for external assessment within 18 months of starting the programme.
Schools will need to ensure they provide a “sponsor” who will support the delegate as they undertake a school improvement task and can verify their evidence at assessment.
Who will the programme benefit?
NPQML has been developed for those leading a team within an organisation, traditionally associated with middle leadership. NPQML is suitable for delegates who:
- have recently taken on a middle leadership role or a new responsibility
- are established middle leaders
- are subject/curriculum leaders, head of a key stage, head of department, pastoral leaders (e.g. head of house), gifted and talented co-ordinator, advanced skills teacher, assessment co-ordinator or career co-ordinator
The recommended retail price for the NPQML programme is £1050 but as a local cluster group we can offer the programme at the reduced price of £968. Upon registration, our programme provider, Leadership East will apply to the National College for a scholarship for each delegate to reduce the cost further.
In primary schools with over 250 pupils and secondary schools with over 500 pupils you can therefore expect to pay £850 per delegate.*
In primary schools with between 101 and 250 pupils you can expect to pay £468 per delegate.*
In primary schools with less than 100 pupils and in secondary schools with less than 500 pupils the scholarships cover the full cost of the programme and there is no charge to delegates.*
*(Please note Leadership East will allocate scholarships which are then formally confirmed by the NCTL. In the unlikely event of a scholarship not being confirmed a delegate is liable for the full cost of the programme)
