Mastery in Literacy (Primary)

Who is this programme for?
For Key Stage 1 teachers, Key Stage 2 teachers, Literacy Subject Leaders and anyone with a keen interest in developing greater depth in Literacy.

Delegates will increase their knowledge, skills and understanding of the definitions of mastery and greater depth in Literacy for all children.  They will also gain an understanding of strategies which will enable children to deepen their thinking and how these can be implemented in the classroom.

The following will be explored during the session:
•    Definitions of mastery and greater depth
•    How mastery can be accessible for all children
•    Sharing best practice approaches to mastery
•    To know a variety of ways to deepen learning
•    To understand the skills that pupils need in order to tackle deeper learning

Who are the Trainers?
This course has been designed and is delivered by three Senior Leaders, Sally Lavelle, Stacey Carroll and Hannah Pearson who are all Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) and whose areas of expertise include Literacy (whole school), Reading and Writing, Curriculum design, Teaching and Learning, and Stretch and Challenge for the more able.

How will my School benefit?
Delegates will have a clear understanding of the terminology surrounding mastery and greater depth.  They will also have an increased range of strategies in order to effectively structure lessons that enable deeper thinking.  Delegates will have improved confidence in delivering the expectations of the new curriculum for Literacy.

How will my students benefit?
With a clearer understanding of how to tackle mastery within the classroom, practitioners will enable their pupils to make accelerated progress.  Pupils will benefit from a wider range of approaches to learning.
