Effective Foundation Subject Assessment (Primary)

Rationale
Ofsted inspectors have now been briefed to broaden their monitoring of the curriculum to ensure that schools are truly providing a broad and balanced curriculum and assessing foundation subjects effectively. This course is designed to ensure that schools and subject leaders in all subjects are fully prepared for when Ofsted visit. It covers how to assess against Age Related Expectations in foundation subjects, how to report the data to subject leaders, how to collate the data and then analyse this in order to provide meaningful data across the curriculum.

Who is this programme for?
Primary Foundation Subject Leaders, Senior Leaders, Classroom Teachers and anyone with a keen interest in developing their understanding of assessment across the curriculum.

Outcomes
Delegates will increase their knowledge, skills and understanding of the definitions of how to manage assessment in foundation subjects. They will also gain an understanding of how analysis of data can provide a meaningful picture of standards for their subject across the whole school.

The following will be explored during the session:

  • Weekly short term assessment in foundation subjects
  • Termly assessments in foundation subjects
  • Analysis of termly data
  • Asking questions about data in order to determine future actions

Please bring examples of current weekly plans for foundation subjects along with any assessment materials and analysis that your school currently use.

Who are the Trainers?

Melanie Durose is Deputy Head teacher at South Green Juniors and currently leads Literacy. Melanie has previously led Maths, Science, Geography, History, DT and Art in previous roles and holds Specialist Leader of Education status. Amy Bryant leads Foreign Languages at South Green Junior School and has used in-school foundation assessment systems to successfully improve the teaching and learning of her subject, both in her role as class teacher and subject leader.

How will my School benefit?
Delegates will not only leave the course confident in their ability to gather data for their subject, how to analyse this, ask questions and present it to external agencies, they will also end the session with a clear plan for what to do next to increase the impact they have in their own school.
